Es importante la experiencia? Vuelta en U

Michael Kinsley analiza la elección de Sarah Palin y sus efectos en las campañas de ambos candidatos:

"That's why the important point about Palin's lack of experience isn't about Palin. It's about McCain. And the question is not how his choice of Palin might complicate his ability to use the "experience" issue, or whether he will have to drop experience as an issue. It's not even about the proper role of experience as an issue. In fact, it's not about experience at all. It's about honesty. The question should be whether McCain—and all the other Republicans who have been going on for months about Obama's dangerous lack of foreign policy experience—ever meant a word of it. And the answer is apparently not. Many conservative pundits woke up this very morning fully prepared to harp on Obama's alleged lack of experience for months more. Now they face the choice of either executing a Communist-style U-turn ("Experience? Feh! Who needs it?") or trying to keep a straight face while touting the importance of having been mayor of a town of 9,000 if you later find yourself president of a nation of 300 million."

Lo que queda claro es que en todo caso debe usarse la misma medida para la misma circunstancia, si Obama carece de experiencia, Palin también. Y yo creo que Obama tiene muy poca experiencia en política exterior y por eso hizo bien en elegir a Biden. Por otro lado creo que Palin tiene muy poca experiencia en política exterior, pero McCain sí la tiene.
El punto es más bien, y como lo dice Kinsley, si el partido republicano ha hecho de la inexperiencia un tema, y ahora ya no, entonces, igual que los Clinton, habían estado mintiendo o están mintiendo ahora. No puedes un día decir Obama es inexperto y al otro decir que está listo, como Hillary y Bill y tampoco puedes decir que Obama es un "polluelo" y elegir a una "polluela", cuando además, McCain es un hombre de 72 años con cáncer de piel. Quieren los norteamericanos -en su caso-- a Miss Congeniality de Presidenta? Podrían imaginarse a Hillary y a sus seguidores si esto llegase a suceder?
Creo que para ésta eventualidad, básica en la elección de un VP, no se la pensaron muy bien... En fin. Vieron en ella nada más el momento de la elección: los votos evangélicos y de mujeres.

Lo que sí vemos, es que una vez más que los republicanos --si, también los demócratas- siguen haciendo la típica campaña política, llena de mentiras.

Y por cierto, eso de ser un Maverick se ha convertido en un sinónimo de la falacia, cada vez que hagas algo o digas algo que esté en contra de un principio lógico, se es un Maverick.

Encontré esta otra opinión de Peter Scoblic en The New Republic muy parecida a lo que digo:

Whatever the political calculations involved in picking a veep, the most important qualification for the vice presidency is the ability to assume the presidency in a crisis. Given that of the last 12 presidents, three have either died or resigned, this is hardly a hypothetical consideration--in fact, given that McCain is 72, it is a very real consideration. Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, and Gerald Ford all faced multiple foreign policy crises immediately upon assuming office, whether it was the onset of the Cold War, the North's invasion of South Korea, the Vietnam War, or the withering of détente and the resulting increase in nuclear tension with the Soviet Union. The next president will have to finish the denuclearization of North Korea; prevent the nuclearization of Iran; organize a departure from Iraq that maintains some level of stability; defeat a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan; establish, nurture, and make the most of a relationship with Pakistan's new leaders; and confront a revanchist Russia while preserving and enhancing its cooperation on nonproliferation and climate change--to say nothing of working with India, China, or our allies.
